i got my 340 out of the shed today and fired her up, and the chain will not stop running on idle.

ive adjusted the hi and lo screws properly 1 and 1 and a quarter but cannot get the chain to stop running.

turned idle screw down to its lowest possible setting without the saw stalling.

Any ideas, i can do my all my other equipment ok but this 340 has got me, thought id ask on here before i take it to the shop

cheers mike

Go straight to the clutch, week or broken springs, roller bearing worn, gunged up internals.

Strip it clean it lube it & see what happens.

All this if you are achieving a correct tickover.

hmm, thanks mate, was working fine the last time i used it, so reckon gunged up internals might be the problem

do they use the C clip springs on the clutch ? i had a 346 which had them and found them to be a PITA , also this may sound silly but was the chain tight and did you adjust the tickover much ?

yes c clip spring, chain tight, adjusted tick over, never had any problems setting saws up before,

are either of the C clips broken ? i would possibly change them and see if that solves the problem , i know they do become week without any warning . oh and i was not questioning your skills at setting up a saw mate

c clips are fine as far as i can tell,no offence taken, its always good to have other opinions, the simple things are often overlooked, had similar problem with 266 many moons back,i think that was clutch springs, im gonna pull it apart tomorrow so ill let you know how i get on, thanks for the info
