thanks, how much of the course have you done so far? is it a work/ time thing, or lack of interest? or lack of funds? or all three...? anything i should look out for? cheers

For the first year of the course you may find this book invaluable: Biology. By Campbell, Reece & Mitchell. It will cover all your bases on plant biology, and I think it is on the recommended reading list.

Just started my course full time, 2 year foundation degree at Moulton College.

The course is great, a lot of information to take in and getting used to referencing is a bit of a nightmare. So look at the harvard refrencing system, it will help.

As for books I have just received my reading list and there is too many to name on here.

Anything by Mattheck - Body language of Trees is a good book by him which you will need to read.

Alex Shigo another author which is a big help.

A lot of things about plant biology and tree ident you will need to know.

I completed the foundation degree last year. There is such a broad scope of reading you need to try pin it down to something actually useful that you will need next year. I would definatly recomend reading up on CODIT (compartmentalisation of decay in trees) Shigos tree biologyand tree care covers it which is relativly cheap, however a must get which covers a very broad range is called Arboriculture priced at around £50 If you drop me a message I will give you the authors details.

Also the tree climbers companion an excellent little book very well written (especially for us worker folk) great illistrations this will help a lot in arb principles.

Bob Watsons book Trees; their use management and cultivation is well worth a shufty at too, covers nearly all subject matter and isnt too expensive.
