guys i think stihl err on the side of caution with rec. bar lengths sometimes,probably covering their arse on warranty claims and looking for increased sales.surely what your cutting can have a massive bearing on choice of saw/bar length etc? my 440 runs a 25" all day but give it some hedgerow elm(aka concrete) and it cowers in the van,out comes the 88,25" and it eats it,job done.horses for courses
