I was called to a Sycamore couple of weeks back, customer saying it had shed a limb. I got there to look and the customer had already had the TO down (conservation area), who said the tree was healthy, just needed some light limb reduction.

I looked, found this;

various brackets at the base

extensive run out from this lower cavity

Upon climb inspection found the main stem to be hollow below the damage and very unstable above it.

After further, shall we say "communication" with the TO, the decision was made to fell;

Ok steve, still posting pics......Lol

My concern now is, should i have left a stem as habitat?

Also, the tree was in a ten-foot, with limited access but along side a public right of way.

Nowt wrong with that Pete.

You could have left it till it was paper thin then got Skyhuck in to climb it :001_tongue:

I've had similar experiences with non climbing TO's, who have said nothing wrong with the tree/s this involved six sycamores / horsechestnuts / brown poles with a big green wavy thing ontop, whatever you want to call them. :001_smile:
