hi all, im new to this Arb malarky, looking to get into some work, currently signed up for a CS30 course. Got my own boots, now in need of jacket and trousers. Im bidding on a pair of trousers on ebay but I havent a clue as to what chanisaw jacket to get, does anyone have any recommendations/ companies to steer clear of? Obviously as a newb I havent got much knowledge of the products and I always find other peaoples reviews to be the best sort of recommendations!

Thank in advance for any responses

Don't get a chainsaw jacket. Far too hot and restrictive. Get a decent waterproof/showerproof jacket like the Stein or Hi-flex jacket. You'll find that unless its sub zero temps you'll take it off anyway...

ok brilliant cheers! thats helpful cos i was just about to bid on one on ebay!

get the cheapest chainsaw gloves you can as long as they have an EN standard because as soon as you get your tickets you will never use them again.

not very 'pc' advise :sneaky2:

i'd say go by the book for the first 6 months after qualifying. boots/type c trousers/gloves .

apart from when it rains of course. bare hands are best!

Personally, my PPE consists of trousers, boots, hat. Job done. You will need gloves for assesments and training though; I used a pair of the stihl leather chainsaw gloves for my training, and found that the seams on the crease of your 2 middle fingers gave me blisters with prolonged chainsaw use :sneaky2: would not reccomend.

As far as a jacket goes, it is not a requirement, and I expect you would drown in your own sweat wearing one - I have never tried myself; but since you havnt even started off in arb yet i definately wouldnt buy one until you know you like the work, for fear of wasting money.

Good luck!
