fungus id needed please!!!!

Hi all this fungus has popped up within the last week at one of my customers can you tell me what it is and will it affect the hedge as it is growing both sides of it.

looks very much like honey fungus - check that there is a veil around the stalk.

having just had a good look at the image, i have to ask, is there a stump close by?

 

The fruits appear to be as though coming up of a bigger root form than the hedging plants (fagus sylvatica) and hence may just be acting saprophticaly.

Just to clarify what has actually been said in the responses so far ..( these fung boffs like using acronyms and such..its like a code and it rots your brain and renders you unable to communicate with "normal" folk) an to answer your original questions...

Honey Fungus- Armillaria spp ( mellea)- google it.

Quite likely to affect the hedge frankly . Would not recommend doing anything in fact. Not until the hedge is clearly dying and not recovering.

But then you knew that didn't you...! HTH

Yes there is a old silver birch stump in the hedge which i took down last year as there was a big crack in the base

It may well suck, but google keeps picking up my threads whenever im doing research! its a pain in the backside when you want something you dont already know!

 

Its frightening ho woften google picks up arbtalk!
