he said he could get a ms880 for about £750

The import reality is

Cost £750.00

shipping to port £15.00

Consolidated freight [part container to UK per pallet = £190.00 so per machine say average £15.00 a unit inc insurance

Transport and unloading UK £30.00 inc insurance

Total £810

Plus Import duty @ 6% =£48.60 New Total £858.60

Plus VAT £150.25 on machine cost duty and freight

Final bill delivered about £1008.85

And then you may find it is not CE compliant so cannot be used by an employee under H&S and parts may vary.

It would only be worth it for 60-100 saws at a time and even then the saving over the show prices available today would not be worth the outlay of cash upfront.

when i bought some bits out in canada the dealer made me sign a stihl declaration so that there was no come back on the dealer for selling kit that was going straight back out the country, the equipment isnt CE marked so its a grey area if you should be using them for work, but then again you could always just contact your local dealer and by the safety decal set including the CE stickers,

I only made a saving as i bought my equipment back with me, if it had been picked up by Customs being shipped over, it wouldnt be worth the bother now.

Ditto the above - buying what appears to be much cheaper gear from abroad looks brilliant until you get down to the nitty gritty and do the maths.

The only time it's prob worth it is if you're over there and you bring one back in yourself and don't declare it saving the freight, import duty and import vat (as in previous post).
