passed CS40 and CS41 today. im not going to say i passed with flying colours but i got through it and have the bit of paper to prove it.

I know some others on here wanted to know what you had to do so here is.

CS40

I had to reduce and thin a medium size Oak all over. this was only 10 - 15%. and of coarse answer all the questions and stuff. and all was done with a handsaw.

CS41 - sectional felling

Lateral limbs-

1 butt rope

1 tip rope

1 balanced

at least one of these has to have a pulling line.

vertical sections-

1 free fall sink cut, just push it off

1 free fall step cut, just push it off

2 sink cut with a pulling line

and all the other bits you have to answer and expain like setting up your fiction device, portawrap.

thats all i can remeber from 3 hours ago.

do you have to knock the top off of a tree? how about (heaven forbid) natural crotch rigging. I know its frowned upon but its a useful skill to have the day someone decides to forget to pack teh shiny gear.

Anyway.

Well done

depends on the tree you have to do 'vertical trunk sections' the tree i had was co-dominant well king of so i mamaged to get the vertical sections out of that without knocking out the main stem. just has to be at least 8 inches in diameter. it was in a woodland so all tall and straight up so lots of vertical sections.

not sure about the natural crotch i just used a block on a split tale with a cow hitch.

yer i always call it a gob cut but the assesor called it a sink cut so i started doing it.

a topping strop:scared: i was implying a half hitch and a peg

everything has its place and hardware will inrease the lifespan and reduce wear but knowing old/most basic methods is always useful
