arb shops pricing

ive seen two things recently sold at arb shops online that seemed overly priced, one was £40+ while it could be found for £22 they are identical products. So do these shops make up selling some things cheaper by selling some stuff dearer. this isnt a dig at any shops just interested in the possible reasons.

im not really wanting to say but the lower price was screwfix

Screwfix has big buying power and can afford to loss lead on items.

Your corner shop is buying by the dozen while Tesco buys by the thousand

when i went to the arb show in cirencester i was amazed at the prices of chainsaw for an 200t i think it was about £380 and i asked them why they were so cheap and they said because we buy them in bulk, then when i contacted my local stihl dealer the cheapest price i could get was £470

Yeah I know about economies of scale etc, but can that really lead to such a price difference on an item at this price level? Ok 10 quid perhaps but not double surely?

Your local stihl dealer probably doesn't buy them from stihl. Only very large dealers can do that.

having had a proper look on google there does seem to be a very varied price on said item so perhaps it is purely reason above. just shows how much to shop around, even for arb type stuff

There is probably an upper limit for any item, usually called MRRP, so as long as the more expensive product is that price then it just means the other is dicounted, maybe they ordered too many?
