Tree survey software.

Hi guys, just a quickie (and this is particularly aimed at L/A bods) - What tree survey software packages are you guys using?

I only ask as the one we use (Stay-safe) does not have in-built mapping and I’m finding increasingly frustrating wondering around the city with paper maps blowing about in the wind!

Any recommendations and an approx cost would be great.

Thanks,

John.

John,

I've been using Arbortrack for the last 3/4 years.

It suits our needs well.

Maps are good, and you can underlay satellite image aswell.

Arbortrack - Tree management software - ArborTrack

All the City of London sites use it as do the Royal parks.

Theres a good yearly user group set up aswell.

I think our local perpetual users lisence was approximately 8k

& there is a yearly maintenance/Tech support cost of about 1k

Hi John,

Myself and a local tree officer are having a demo next Tuesday from Woodplan. You are welcome to join us if you like?

Paul

Thanks for the kind offer Paul, I’ll see what the workload is like next week. The choice of software we’re using has all got very political as it’s the same company that supply software for all the play equipment etc…

Basically swings and roundabouts (assets) have been turned into Oaks and Acers and I’ve been told to ‘get on with it’.

Its not asking much to have a map based recording system, surely??

I now use google earth with the town councils and park land like blenheim. A licence is only a couple of hundred a year and it ammunicates with my Garmin. You can also export data into data bases now. Also clients dont need a licence so they can they their data for free.

LB Ealing uses Woodplan. As the name suggests, this is an application solely dedicated to tree use, not like Confirm, for example.

I have used this for nearly a year and out of all the systems I have used (Stems, Confirm, Ezytree, Proactive and Woodplan) I think it has got the best balance between on site and managerial applications. The on site mapping is really good and the aerials are invaluable for plotting trees accurately.

It's not the speediest way to survey trees, but it makes up for it with the amount of information that can be collected and the reports that can be generated.

As for costs, who knows? I just use the thing and let people pay me
