telephone cable

hi all

 

i have to quote for a job to include reducing some trees. within the canopy there is a telephone cable - will BT come out and take it down or what is the procedure? i have never dealt with them before.

 

any help appreciated

they will remove or reroute it for the day but i will cost you, best to work round the cable if you can!!

Try and avoid it if you can, but if you break it get the customer to ring up and report a fault. Then they come and fix it FOC.

I know someone:sneaky2: obviously not me who has been known to take them down and put them back up afterwards, it only a couple of wires.....

 

Also the metal coils that are used by buildings to secure the wires are good for joining broken cables - again apparently:blushing:

just dodge them, if you can tie them off, do 1 side at a time, if they are slack you can get a good pull on them. if you are sneaky its a handy speedline lol

or if your me and unlucky you get sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo surprised when the tree seems to hit them and then slide off.

where are you based? job based? if its round yorkshire i have a magic problem solving ex-bt timeserved guy who can extend them along ground for duration of job, then re-position properly and test to make sure all is well, comes in handy for jobs where wires are problems etc.. Ed.

I had fell a dead Elm which had a BT line running right in front of it. The client contacted BT and was told it would take a couple of weeks for someone to come out and lower the line. We started to dismantle the Elm and work around the line, but that was getting a bit dodgy as it was badly rotten.

So we managed to lower the line and felled the tree on top of the line.

 

Not sure if you can make out the line in the first picture.

 

Last pic, the tree was the perfect size to fit through the gap in the hedge.

I always found phone lines quite flexable so try and move it or tie it back.
