Never did know the difference between Stihls pro saws with and without the "Magnum" designation other than Magnum seems to be the norm Stateside. Can anyone educate me? Chz.

I have an 038 Magnum,its 72cc compared to the 66cc for a super and 61cc for the bog standard 038.

Its a cracking old saw with plenty of grunt,even more since i fitted a factory dual port exhaust

as far as i know mate, there was an 038mag, 056mag and 056mag II, all being larger displacement than the AV and Super versions of those saws.

 

in later models the magnum designation was just a marketing ploy and means nothing... like farmboss, its just a word to entice out american friends.

as an aside... US saw wise;

 

arctic = heated handles/carb

 

R = 3/4 wrap handle, larger clutch cover, big dogs/roller chain catcher, higher output oiler (in the MS460R at least) and slightly different size chainbreak handle (in the 066/660) to allow proper clearance between it and the wrap handle.

higher output oiler for 460? i need one of them.. always thought it didnt oil enough even when turned up full.
