Cheers,

I've probably got an 1"BSF tap somewhere, but I think you might struggle to tap that by hand, plus you'll need to bore the chuck or adaptor back plate for the spindle resister diameter (I think). (What are you going from to - 1"x10 on spindle to ?x? chuck?)

Cheep taps here:

BSF taps sets Whitworth Fine Taps whitform special tap 3/16 BSF tap 7/32 BSF taps 1/4 BSF tap 9/32 BSF taps 5/16 BSF tap 3/8 BSF taps 7/16 BSF tap 1/2 BSF taps 9/16 BSF tap 5/8 BSF taps 3/4 BSF taps 7/8 BSF tap 1 BSF taps 1-1/8 BSF tap 1-1/4 BSF taps

Otherwise it might be easier to use a local engineering firm... trade a bit of turnery, perhaps the chuck manufacturer would do it on the cheap seeing as the told wrong?

Ive been round all theprecision engineering companies in selby with no success, as its an unusual thread these days, even in the old school heavy engineering places no one has a tap left.

the company i bought the chuck said that all sorby and nova accessorys fit, but they dont class the thread adaptors as accessories so its technically my fault.

ive got a new toy and i cant use it! its infuriating!

the chuck is m33x3.5 spindle needs to be 1"x10tpi, (its currently 3/4x16tpi)

That's pretty week that none of the local engineering firms could/would help, if they haven't got a tap it's not that difficult to screw cut with a boring bar...

I could make you one, but not until the end of March..., I guess you won't want to wait that long.

Ask axminster, they might be able to help, I think they machine some stuff them selves.

Good luck. Sympathies in the mean time.

They are all willing to help, its just a thread that no one uses any more. all very helpful rang a few places, dug round for ages in old tool boxes but no luck!

i might go back on monday and ask em to screwcut, i know the thread form so shouldnt be hard.

55' 10tpi. otherwise known as 1" bsf!

i could buy the tap for 20 quid i just dont want to buy a tool that ill use once then leave in a box!

Unfortunatly its not no, its a fox. IM debating selling the fox and getting a nova or a sorby. i ordered a nova adaptor as i was under the impression that it would fit the fox chuck

All the Jaws and Accessories from the Nova2, Sorby Patriot, Vicmark VM100, Record RP100, Rutlands Dakota XT700 and Charnwood W830 will fit on this Chuck

from the fox website, unfortunatly thread adaptors arent classed as accessories :sneaky2:

or taking the spindle out and getting it built up in weld, then re-tapped to 8tpi.

i have indeed taken the old insert out!

and that is the insert i have bought (from poolewood) (Actually on the ink you sent me previously) and it doesnt fit the chuck, its like the thread is too big, i dont think its m33x3.5 it looks bigger somthing like m34/35, perfect snug fit on the spindle mind.
