I'm presumming you've chosen not to list Beech, Oak & Plane cause they're commonly associated & not omissions from the esteemed list above?.

Its a good point mate....? The fact is I think infection within urban tree populations shows a preference for the "common host" associations that are listed in the preamble ( within the texts) to those above. You are quite right...I should have listed them and thank you for showing me up!:blushing:

Perhaps we are seeing the effects of climate change. Whats interesting is not so much the species associations we are clocking as the fact that we are now seeing these associations in the uk where before they may have been more prevalent within europe than here.

And, as has been unequivocally inferred in the above thread/posts, we see a change of associations within site specific criteria......like urban populations.:001_smile:

Why, thank you kind sir.

I'm suprised that you didn't spot the deliberate mistake in that piccy 2 is actually Laetiporus, that old fat fingers here uploaded by mistake :blushing: I'll lend you my specs, if you like?

  • 2 months later...

So due to lack of enthusiam to send any orf to the dazzling white coats of Kew, I'm tentatively going with Merip on this "Hornbeam",

based mainly on conferance with a couple of like minded fung types.

It does bruise (both pores & flesh) & smells like the big M.

Flesh is very stringy.

Though it's an odd looking one for sure.

& very thick.

Host is somewhat unusual, certainly in terms of the fact that I've never read of the association. But we all know what little good that is.

Some thing seems not quite right with this picture, so getting someone to check the spore under their scopes for some confirmation.

I'll post back with findings.
