My first attempt at an Owl

Recommended Posts

I have tried a couple of mushrooms that I was quite pleased with so thought I would give something abit more challenging a go. I'm quite pleased with the result but know there is a lot that can be improved on future attempts. I used a blow torch to bring out the texture in the feathers. All done with a top handle.

Let me know what you think...:thumbup1:

Looks very good for first attempt, did it hit a tree when it was flying face looks abit flat :001_tt2:

Thanks Ian , I know what you are saying about the face. I'm thinking of getting an angle grinder with a sanding disk on so I can get more curves into it.

I wonder if you'll get any Piptopo..........Oooops, wrong thread :blushing:

I think it's actually pretty good.

Can't see from this angle, did you carve much relief on the wings?

.

Cheers MonkeyD, I ran the edge of the chain over the wing areas and it gave it quite a good feathered effect, especially after running the blow torch over it. Not sure if that's what you mean by relief??:blushing:

I thought it was a rabbit at first glance, perhaps the head should be a bit further forward.

EDIT; I just had another look, I think it's the wings being too thick that stops it being instantly recognisable to me. If they were thinner and maybe swept back a bit at the top it might give more impression of movement.
