Well, friday was a lovely day, just a huge, very dead willow on a footpath, totally decayed, probly 70-80% t/r no-where for it do go-cept in thart field -boy! Are we gonna climb and rig it down? Ummmm -that will be a 'no!' Heavily leaning, bat check was done, put sink cut in, only 3-4" of sapwood left -tree started cracking at that point. Poked side cuts in to stop barbers chair snap out-then 'Alll clear !- Achtung ! ' Barely got the back cut in-as it tore away an crashed just where I intended it to go ! ( smug :001_tt2: )

And a lil closer -showing extent of decay, no fruiting bodies, a soft-rot, pulpy fibrous cellulose remnants, could have fruit bodies inside-but nothing indicating a vector, no bark or trunk damage, no pruning wounds , root plate in wet soil but had grown like that for cir 70 yrs ? Odd

Thankyou fr you kind comments -all. Actually, of all the big trees ( over 3x bar length) this was the most dodgy Ive done, it was in imminent danger ( in tree timescale terms) of collapsing -big tension failure cracks all around the back of the butt - ( small panic-farts escape at this point !) K
