Put "Midland GXT" in to ebay search Bob.

They are long range walkie talkies not available over here because they are above the wattage "recommended"

I bought about 20 for the shoot from america, they dont have the 20 or 30 mile range claimed from valley to valley but have a hell of a range hill top to hill top, I was speaking to a friend about ten mile away but line of sight.

Any of the GXT range are good but I have GXT 700's

Got a pair of these

Use them for scout events. Very good, will take a crab through the top ring to stop you dropping them.

Try for a set with lockable controls. I bought Motorolas years ago, to use in the woods for my kids, they discovered the auto-scan feature and had fun winding up the staff of a local leisure centre for a while until I caught them at it. The poor buggers were getting calls to run all over the building.

Good point about a lockable control because accidently pressing the VOX button can be very embarrassing if you are having a private convo with 40 odd people listening like what happens on the shoot.

I took the radio apart and put a peice of tape under the VOX button to disable it
