Anyone fancy a group trip to an ancient arboreal environment?

I dont know about many of you guys on here but the ancient woods fungi and the life of the undisturbed unmanged woods fascinates me, and as part of my great quest for sights and knowledge i plan to take a trip to a few sites around europe at some stage in the future.

 

This will be an exploration into medeval woods far from civilisation and polution with a main purpose of photographing the greates examples of fungi, decaying wood and old growth.

 

Doing this alone i can handle but if anyone would fancy a joint exploration/study of these places please feel free to join me!

 

You would need to be able to "rough it" and be somewhat of an "anorak" lol

 

there are some truly amazing places in europe, and I intend to see them:thumbup1:

 

I would especialy like to know if there are keen entomologists with similar plans, as this would mean a great level of insight gained between the skill sets.

 

There is MUCH that is yet to be learnt about insects and fungi and the life of the dead and decaying wood, this could be a very interesting vacation for a geeky sort!

 

I have a few sites in mind, but am keen to hear of others "dream locations" for a wooded explore!

this is a no rush scenario Gibbon, just gauging similar interests at the mo, would be good to do this as a group as apposed to on ones tod, but I am not fussed iether way. Rolling about in the damp mud looking for bugs and fungi isnt the ideal for most folk!

Elaborate, I was thinking large rucksacks with all we need and tree boats for accomadation!

I meant I nearly always have too many commitments. If I'm not away with work it has to be a family trip these days. Nice idea, though.

not sure what a tree boat is? but seen tents you can hang from a crab, usually for rockclimbers but could be handy for those big dismantles haha

A tarp and hammock is all you need for a week in the woods!

 

well as well as the tools, a gransfors small forest axe a decent perang and a knife, but most importantly a decent camera and power pack!

 

Im thinking Ray mears style!

ok but the line must be drawn somewhere between ray mears and bear grylls, im not drinkin me own pee out of a snake, or sleepin in a camel carcass..
