What wood is this please?

There is " kiln dried wood " akin to flash frying a steak , then there is kiln dried wood that has been in the kiln long enough to make it dry all the way through and at the same time loosing some of the volitiles and then there is air dried wood ( my favorite ) . 15% moisture is 15% moisture however its achieved but , air dried for me all day long .

Some very hard wood is best mixed with softwood or split a bit smaller, oak and laurel come to mind.

As others have said, to test the wood correctly, take a big lump, split it and measure the centre. 

Looking at your picture again, it looks like a piece of some sort of palm...a bit weird.

Sorry for late response .... got caught up with Xmas and hope everybody had a good one!

 

I will grab a bit, split it and test the middle, she tried some other wood as well and that worked fine so it's definitely not the burner / installation which is good. 

 

Think I'm going to suggest she gets some other decent wood and keep this load to next year which will give it a chance to dry out properly and no money wasted.
