I'm not sure if your current splitter has the same operating functions. 

I definitely need to retain that feature.

 

My current splitter has a guide rod that you can manually set to stop the ram fully returning.

That’s fine if all my logs were cut to the same length, but they’re arb scraps so I currently cut them for easiest splitting.

12” on straight grained stuff, down to 4” on knotty euc or similar.

 

Being able to stop the ram where I want would be a dream.

As GarethM has said, push the lever to the full return position and the lever will remain in that position  retract fully and stop, push it part way and when its at the required distance back, let go of the lever and it will stop wherever it is currently.

this feature would suit your style of splitting varying lengths
