I spent a good hour trying to find the source of a rattle after fitting another engine.

 

When the engine was idling there was a hellish rattle, I quickly shut down the engine and had to keep starting it to zero in on the rattle whilst worrying that every time I did I was ruining the engine.

 

It turned out I had left a socket in the airfilter housing between the air filter and the outer casing :blushing:

 

and that is a fully qualified mechanic with 30 years behind him

it may well be that the rotor bearings have gone pair shaped mate , my tw190 that i had did something verry similar, check and see how easily you can turn the flywheel round by hand , also was there and major vibration from the machine just before it stopped working ??
