I got presented with an 076 today, apparently "seized solid", started to investigate and quickly discovered the entire crankcase both under and above the piston was full of chain oil?  so, hydraulic locked.

never come across this before, looks like someone has been feckin' with the carb as it's partially refitted, and my first thought was somebody filled the fuel tank with chain oil by mistake?

but I had a bit of a search and it appears there could be one of many reasons for this event.

can anyone perhaps shed some light on the problem, maybe even had similar .

TIA.

I knew a bloke who worked for the council, they’d put all the old machinery and trucks into auction when they got replaced.

There was a escort van that he wanted so he took out the front seats and filled the cylinders with engine oil.

When people tried to start it, it was solid, even the fan etc was immovable.

You just assumed it was seized up and practically worthless, the missing seats giving the air of something already being cannibalised for parts.

So he went to the auction bought it for buttons, replaced the seats, removed the spark plugs and turned the engine over, removing the oil, hey presto! a few grands worth of van for next to nothing.

Not saying that is what’s happened here, but it put me in mind of that story.

A hole or crack in the oil tank wall that separates from the crank case possibly ?

That is a distinct possibility Stubby, as the fuel tank is totally separate and unless somebody flushed it and replaced the filter shows no sign of any chain oil, same with the carb, but the carb does show signs of removal and cleaning and hadn't been completely refitted. I shall investigate further.
