I have emailed the Arb Association and had no luck in a response so ill post this here. Bit of a shame being a member but not being able to get in touch with the AA but here it is:

Hi I am currently researching training courses to undertake to progress my career from a climbing arborist to start tree surveying and working within the consultancy side of the industry.

I am enrolled onto the Level 4 Diploma with Tree Life starting in September.

I am looking for more information on other courses such as the Professional Tree Inspection etc that will enable me to start working as a tree surveyor. I have developed health issues and I am needing to reduce my tree climbing work drastically and I am in need of information on the qualifications employers require to undertake surveying work.

Is it just the PTI that will get me into this work?

Where does the TRAQ course fit with the PTI and Level 4 Diploma?

What other courses should I take?

Does the PTI alone set you up to begin surveying and doing visual tree assessments?

Any help is appreciated thanks!

Hi there - firstly I do apologise you've received no response from Head Office, I don;t know why that might be but I'm sorry nonetheless (my direct AA email is [email protected] or my colleague [email protected] for any future (technical) questions.)

In response, what you've outlined is a great way forward (including the PTI, increasingly a benchmark requirement for tree inspections) - both Treelife and the AA do other courses / webinars etc. which will help expand your knowledge in specific areas / topics but the Level 4 Arb should cover that too.

Try to spend some time with an experienced tree surveyor, i.e. being mentored, as that will be really beneficial / helpful.

Good luck with your career progression and I hope the change works well for you.
