Hi I have been offered some old tree trunks, mainly chestnut, a little ash possibly alder. I was wondering how hard this would be on the saw and chain compared to fresh wet trunks.

Any comments welcome Henry

As long as they aren't   rotten/old  thus pretty worthless it shouldn't be an issue.

Seasoned wood is  harder and  blunts a chain very slightly faster. If they are of a large   diameter and you have a small cc chainsaw it might struggle more and cut abit slower than if they were still green.

If so go easy and make sure  the chain is sharp & oiling well. Cross cutting big rounds can be hard on a smaller saw.
