Evening from a lovely day in Donegal Ireland.

New chainsaw user looking for some advice.

I'm a woodturner and started to do a good bit more processing of logs etc for my turning.

Im applying for my 201 & 202 chainsaw course soon.

I've just purchased the milwaukee dual battery chainsaw after using a 240v for a while.

Reason for not going petrol is neighbours as I live in a estate.

Looking for chaps or trouser recommendations my local shop said I have to be careful as some aren't rated for electric?

Also looking for a good sharpening file recommendation.

All advice, is appreciated and all will be listened to.

Thanks

That Milwaukee gets great reviews, solid choice. What size chain does it take?

I recommend the Stihl combination file for whatever size chain it takes, does teeth and rakers at the same time, quick and easy 👍

Just had a look online and it looks like the Milwaukee saw uses .325 pitch chain so that would be a 3/16 file same as 4.5mm. Don’t think that there is a difference in trousers other than class that relates to chain speed. I’d be looking at some cheap oregons from Screwfix if it was down to me. Don’t forget boots too 👍

That's the fella then.

70 euro seems a lot though, you can probably find one cheaper. I think I paid 55 euro for mine.

Not tried these myself but not heard good things from friends. Generally the courses will teach you to use the Oregon type and I would imagine you’d get a better finish

From Google your chain speed seems to be 14.3 m/s.

This explains the protection level classes for trousers. I'd suggest trousers rather than chaps.

(And don't get the wellie style protective boots, ever.)
