Generator power surge.

A friend of mine has a Suzuki duel voltage generator, He uses it to run a big breaker and a big drill both 110V. He finds the drill keeps over revving as if there is a power surge. I advised him to use it on the 240V setting with a converter. Does anyone know why this is happening and how it could be cured.

Cheers

If the same things happen on other powertools (ruling out the breaker itself)

If it is an electronic regulator is is likely to be the AVR Automatic Voltage Regulator

If it's a capacitor run it could be the capacitor or even a loose connection

You need to plug a volt meter in to a spare socket when you use the drill. Also try and find a meter with frequency on not a cheap one but say a fluke or similar costing at least a £100. Alternatively a panel mounted anologue frequency metre this will tell you if the engine is over revving.
