No need for the wire if you stack a holzhausen correctly! Put all the grain of the split pieces pointing to the centre and everything locks together nicely.

Just needs a bit of space round it I found, to maximise drying from all wind directions. Never found it practical in confined spaces as I was wasting space putting  round thing in a square hole.
