Need help with a young apple tree

I bought this tree 2 years ago. Planted it in an area that gets really good light and exposure whilst being protected from strong winds. We got a small amount of fruit last year. I noticed this year that the blossoms come out then turn brown and fall off in clusters. The tree is growing well other wise but it's been insanely wet this year.  I'm hoping this isn't something serious but could use the opinion of someone with a little more knowledge.

@Stere thank you for your help.

I had to remove the tree and destroy it altogether as there was signs of infection all the way down to the base of the trunk and I have other apple trees in the garden.

I will replant in the area as it is a good location. But, is there anything I should do to the soil other than build up the nutrient base and add a bit of lime to the surrounding area before replanting? I had contemplated burning the top soil by laying coals on it...
