As a fellow eco Angus owner you are correct. The third function uses the loading valve which below 65c remains closed.

 

It's a thermal valve like a car radiator thermostat, so if it's hot and during a power cut it just works via gravity depending on the temperature and the 28mm or larger pipework.

 

The second safety features the cooling loop only takes mains water through a separate isolated coil and dumps it's direct to drain, it's not taking any water from the heating system itself.

Hello, We have a wood burning/coal (but never got on with coal) stove which has been installed over 6 years ago. It is pumped as I could not get a descent sustained gravity feed. The pipe work from the back of the stove is 32mm and goes straight up. It does have 2 safety pressure relief valves and can be run in conjunction with a gas boiler feeding the same radiators. I also have the system split so it can heat either up or downstairs as required. The pump kicks in when the temperature of the water reaches 55C at the back of the stove but the pump speed is governed by the temperature of the water from the back of the stove and will reach full pump speed around 75C. Added to this if it does got any hotter than 80C will feed all the radiators to cool it down. Seems to work okay for us.
