That made me laugh. We use to call my mate's first single wheel Izuzu the dung beetle the way it wallowed about.

I’ve got 2 merc sprinters which have single rear wheels. Never give any bother and as every tree surgeon knows they are always over weight. As said they have a much larger tyre on them and give good traction. 
 

do wallow around but my transit does as well.

Back in the day, I ran single, dual and dual rear 4x4 and singles 4x4 and the where all crappie off the road unless dry or the base was good!

For what it's worth, my transit twin wheel twice got something proper wedged between the wheels.

 

Sprinter single wheel has been stuck on mud once.

 

Though overall, not had major issues with either setup
