Help please

Growing near a pine tree.

 

Anyone get any ideas?

Can you find a sunken spot or change in grass where another one's been taken down and ground out? Seems to take a few years for the roots left behind to get fruiting fungi above ground.

It was one of my friends who posted it.  He is a gardener and posted the picture up with the question.

 

I wasn’t sure so, put it out for the more knowledgable fungiphiles.

Can you ask your friend if they had gills or pores Rich?

If pores, then they may be one of the mycorrhizal bolete species like Suillus collinitus or Suillus granulatus.

He is pretty sure it is Suillus granulatus.

if there’s a slight pink tinge to the base of the stem (pink hyphae) then it’s likely to be collinitis, if there isn’t any pink, then probably granulatus
