Mains powered chainsaw

I am the proud owner of a Lidl Florabest mains powered chainsaw. I use it to chop up wood dropped off by tree surgeons where I live in Eltham, just under Oxleas Woods (by the way I need more of this - see Ben's Hardwood Tip Site). I am intensely aware that it doesn't exactly drip with testosterone compared to the magnificent thoroughbred machines some of you guys have - you know who you are. But on the other hand it was about £40 several years ago and I think a good buy of its kind.

 

I read in a book called Norwegian Wood that some men in their 80s over there have still got their 1940's Jonserd petrol saws going strong.

Perhaps I ought to nurture and care for my Lidl Florabest like that and stop complaining like the whingey git I am.

 

However it is only just up to the task and even with decent chain sharpening and new chains, it doesn't make it that easy. Can anyone recommend a better make of mains-powered chainsaw? Not too expensive? Is there such a thing?

Husky 420el 2000w (or if you like the colour teal the UC4051A makita version ) though doubt it would have any more cutting power than the florabest, just better build quality spares availiabilty and less vibrations probably.

 

The florabest  model is listed as   2200w which is about eqivalent of a good 40c petrol saw if the chains sharp should be ok unless you are bucking alot of larger  diameter harwood rings. If thats the case you need  say a decent 60cc petrol saw to speed the process up......

 

Stihl do make some slightly more powerful corded ones but they are not sold in the uk and are very pricey.

Also if  the flora has had yrs of use might be worth checking the motors carbon brushes for wear.

 

All the corded saws still seem to have brushes im sure if the demand was there a improved more modern brushless motor corded saw like on the cordless chainsaws might improve them abit.....

We have sold the AL-KO EKI2200 mains electric saws as a cheaper, but none the less superb alternative to the stihl MSE.

 

Like the stihl this model has an inline motor, so well balanced and not so cumbersome as those that have the west to east set up. Oregon bar and chain as standard. Alloy main casing. Proper machine, well made and well priced. Ok not as cheap as an aldi special or the crap bosch offerings, but they don't pretend to be. Still cheaper than the stihl or other more 'specialist' names.
