Refresher Training/Upskilling

I have a team member who completed CS30, 31, 38 & 39 coming up to 5 years ago.

He completed CS41 last year.

I assume CS41 will cover the refresher for 38 & 39 as an upskill... but what about CS30 & 31? Does CS41 class as an upskill for this? Or should I be putting him through a separate ground based upskill or refresher?

The CS41 will cover it technically, but if he spends most of his time doing aerial work and little felling, this will probably be the weak spot that needs to be refreshed, so a one day refresher might be appropriate for CPD/insurance etc.

I would personally take a look at his felling and see if he is up to scratch, if so, crack on, if not book him in. NPTC now do a one day ‘Golden Badge’ certificate where you basically do the Assessment again to see if you are still deemed competent, with guidance on where to improve from the Assessor.

The only thing I would say is does he fell large trees/stems over his CS31 limit, if so maybe put him in on the CS32 instead.

Does the 5 year thing exist in arb?

I thought it was just a fisa/forestry site thing

The 5 year refresher has always existed, albeit ‘Advisory’ from AFAG/HSE, meaning the majority really didn't do them.
FISA just made it compulsory in Forestry so that they could make a fortune on training, you could only use FISA instructors initially, unfortunately they had next to none.

NPTC now offer CPD badges for refresher training. This means you get your refresher covered with a NPTC assessor and have an official NPTC badge to confirm that you are to standard. So, yes, up skilling is the best way to go so he could also do the felling up to 760mm but, if this isn't appropriate, you can get the felling officially refreshed if required.
