How long have you had it?

 

While you have it apart, check the aluminium pump tunnel housing to make sure that the milled surfaces on either end are parallel. I have found a few that are quite a few thou out resulting in the pump not being aligned with the end of the drive shaft and premature wear of the red spider drive cushion.

 

Just sussed it out Dean, It WAS your chipper! Think i`ve had it 4years now, thought i recognised the garage!

Thought it was bearings, but on stripping it, shaft worn also-its been getting worse for a while so went for overhaul, rebuilt shaft, balance, bearings etc.

 

Have had spider drive probs in the past but have been able to align that better recently, just needs nylon drive.

 

Old girl still going well though, does less work now though.

I have used Greenmechs since and none performed like that one did.

 

I have had the same problem with another chipper I had, the bearing came loose and eventually got sloppy. I had to take the shaft in and have it built up with weld then re-turned on a huge lathe.
