Even then I don’t get excited about it. It’s just as smouldering lump in the way of refuelling. 🤣

Holm oak on the otherhand burns a bit like coal . I like it but usually mix Oak with other stuff and it needs to be 5 years old sesoning .

I chuck the off-cuts in the stove with Larch. But then we’re talking 4” square max.

Currently building my daughter a coffee cup side table as she keeps putting them on the fireguard 😡 so lots of wee off-cuts getting throw in.

But you’re right, folk just don’t appreciate the time needed to season oak and often don’t have the space either.

You are lucky.  I do get some good dense wood in the mix but rarely that much.  He did contact me a few weeks ago asking if I wanted some oak, told him that was a silly question!  Not whole trees worth though.

It varies for me but oddly my stacks are 2/3 oak currently. Lots around here and a couple of neighbours had several removed 2 years ago. I actually value the coni to mix with it.

Folk love the sound of Oak til it comes time to burn it…..

It does need very good seasoning, smaller splits and 2 or 3 in the stove, and more air.  There are plenty of other woods is take in preference of given the choice, I just happen to live in a bit of South London with an awful lot of oak trees.
