Makita DUX 60Z Anyone Using One?

Thinking about getting the above as already have batteries / charger, mainly for Brush Cutter but also Hedge Trimmer.

Has anyone got one and what do you think of it especialy the Hedge Trimmer, is it easy to use / well balanced?

I picked up an old eletric unbranded one yesterday and it was heavy and horrible and would really deter you from using it, trying to find out how one of these may compare and if it's a pleasure or complete pain to use?

I have the DUR368 trimmer, also the DUH651 hedge trimmer and the DUC353 chainsaw.  I am pretty sure the DUX 60 powerhead is based on the same 'guts' as the DUR368.

My experience of Makita is good.  The DUR368 has moderate power [enough for 15 inch grass and light brambles] and two batteries last about the same as a tank of 2-stroke on an equivalent machine.  It is so much quieter and lighter to use.  It is quite sensitive to the line and head you use.  Lighter [2mm] is the way to go for most - but I do have other thicker varieties for tougher tasks in the shed.

I bought the strimmer, the hedge trimmers and the chainsaw as occasional backup.  But I'm using all three much, much more than I expected.  To be honest it also goes with working a little differently.  Maybe starting jobs a little earlier in the growing season than I had before because the battery kit is a fraction less capable.  No hardship there - just takes a little more planning.

At least four Makita batteries and a double charger are pretty essential too.  The 5 amp batteries are a decent compromise between cost and longevity.  Occasionally one of the online tool retailers will have a deal where you can effectively get a free Makita drill/impact driver/etc. with two batteries - for less then the price of those batteries.

Hope this helps.

I got the 369 strimmer as saw it had more power  than the 368

With 2 5amp batteries only last less than 20 mins though

Also have the 18v chainsaw and 18v hedge trimmer both are excellent.

Could do with a long reach trimmer and pole saw also was thinking of the dux60 but attachments cost alot...

I ordered it before anyone had responded and overall it seems good and balance is easy on the back.

The only thing I don't like about the brush cutter, my previous strimmers got a lot closer to the ground and there's no way to angle the head own. The cord is much higher in relative terms largely due to the "winder" for new cord / bump feed.

Maybe if I was taller it'd have a better angle but I've never had this problem before and where previously you could easily trim the bits of grass overhanging a path this makes it really difficult to include those meaning you need to find another way to do it, extending the time it takes and defeating the whole reason for going cordless.

Haven't tried the hedge trimmer yet, will do over the weekend.
