My 044 has a 20 inch bar, would it run a 30 inch and still maintain the same amount of power? May be a stupid question, (depends on type of wood etc) but i was wondering if anyone had this experience.

No saw will maintain the same power if you increase the bar size by a significant amount. Its simple, bigger bar = less power. Thats the same for everysaw, and of course the opposite is true as well.

Having said that, it should run a 30inch but will struggle on hardwoods. A semi chisel chain would help.

I used to run 32" bars on 044's and 372's, in softwood, even in stock form.

Now I run ported saws, and have an obsession with speed. So, I prefer shorter bars. But an 044/440, especially if it has the dual port muffler fron cover, can handle a long bar, if needed. That said, a 24" will perform better, or a 28 in softwood.
