@Paul Cleaver the collapsed side is facing south only.

When summer arrives that spot get 40ºc, i expected severe dry burning of all possible growing nodules, also the age of the tree plays big part in its development and they are reluctant in producing new leaves at the center, at least in this hot environment.

But I do believe there are a few more 100's of life in it

There are several Oak trees in the UK reported to be 800 years or older🤔. With the one on this thread appearing to be 2 - 3 ft diameter the UK ones can be 2 or 3 times that diameter. Obviously the heat in Portugal doesn’t promote vigorous growth.

@Paul Cleaver that is the 1

Update on south european oak.

# Some strong winds came and prop n5 has moved, ripped a hole in the lower/side of branch visible on pic 1

# A climb was required...and what fun that was

# Readjusted the prop pic 2

# Came down to center of this giant and found my reward👍 2 new sets of leaves, total of 9 of them in the inside/center of the tree pic 3

# This new leaves are facing south where the branch fell off, in here this type of tree, with this stress, the sun, the drought...gentlemen, I believe that this 9 leaves are the light at the end of the tunnel for this oak

LONG LIVE THE OAK
