Hey,

I'm a beginner to this, I've started working for a tree company and I just want to learn more about trees. I've already read the tree climbers companion, but I'd like a book or two on pruning/ arboriculture.

I've already bought the Collins British tree guide for identifying trees. The Modern Arboriculture by Alex Shigo was recommended a lot, along with Trees by Bob Watson. Would these be a good buy? Sorry I know this gets asked quite a lot but these books are pretty damn expensive, so I want to know they are the best buy for a beginner.

Thanks!

Can recommend all three of the books you've mentioned. I'm still surprised by the information that I find in Bob Watsons book, really useful. I find Modern Arboriculture really good as I found each page or small group of pages was a little lesson in itself.

trees their natural history 2nd edition is good, its a readable book about trees. Some of them can be really dry and factual and if you're anything like me you lose interest after an hour or so!
