Sleeping problems!!

Does sound like something is causing you to worry, either conciously or unconciously - possibly the lack of sleep thing itself? Normally, if I have a problem sleeping, its due to lack of being physically tired, or stress/anxiety.

I used to get to the stage of looking at the clock every 10mins and thinking ''must sleep now!'', and the later it got the worse I became. Now, on the rare occasions I have trouble sleeping, I don't worry about it and think I'll catch up tomorrow . I'm always wary of going down the tablet route, mainly as I'm aware that 90% of addicts in this country are on prescribed medication, but whatever works for people I s'pose. You don't drink or smoke, say you're ''totally clean'' yet are happy popping pills?:confused1:

Firstly I thank you all deeply for your replies:biggrin: never before have I met such a great community of people on a forum before.

there Is a small degree of stress I must admit, but this is only been recently in the past few months and not for the same period of time I have had this problem, I am 23 trying to run my own garden services company after all :001_tongue: Its not the easiest thing I have ever done. But thinking about it now I recall the same problem when i worked with my previous company, I would pull myself out of bed at 6-6:30 and then promptly fall asleep in the van again having struggled to sleep at home. so I guess its been well over a year now, I just never realised it untill recently, I always blamed the companys erratic work schedule for my problems then.

In response to TimberCutterDartmoor's post i have this

 

1) Diet inc fluids? - no change for many years, eat fairly healthaly, no alcahol, drink mostly milk and water.

2) Routine? - Eratic I must admit but no worse than the past 4-5 years

3) Bed comfort? - hmm possible

4) Your weight? - Never strayed from 12 stone

5) Fear of going to bed because of not sleeping? - hmm intresting point but i'll have to say no

6) Background stressors i.e. money, family, other? - possible

7) Any recent trauma? Physical and emotional? - crushed my thumb just before christmas, had 3 stiches, hurts a little when moved but tolorable. what emotions!!

 

Thanks again :) I will try some of the things you have suggested and let you know how it goes

I find a few things help.

 

Routine, get to bed at a good time every night and aim for a solid 8 hours.

Wear yourself out, but a good two hours before you go to bed, a 20min jog, a bit of weight training etc

Calm yourself before going to bed, reading is great. Don't watch anything too exciting on TV :biggrin:

I learnt the last one from a hypnotist.

Count to ten VERY slowly, with every count take a deep breath (as deep as you can).

 

I sleep like a log now. :biggrin:

just go through shreks 1000's of posts....that'll do the trick

 

 

sorry i fell asleep there sean:sneaky2:i used to struggle with bed time as my mind would race about everything i needed to do and all the stresses with work, but now i sleep great becasue i dont let my brain do all the work, get a diary or just even anote pad and pen, write everything down, get it on paper, keep it beside your bed. I use my phone, i go to bed an dplay solitaire on my phone, as you start to relax all the problems disapear and the answers to your questions start coming through, so i go into my calender on my phone and stick them in, set reminders and add my tasks, then go back to the games, when i cant keep my eyes open i just turn off the phone and off i pop. stress used to have me up to the toilet 3 times a night and i would lie in bed worrying about stuff. I was always thirsty and had a dry cough, but destressing has cured all of that, i used to go to the drs for tests but they all came up fit and healthy.:001_smile:
