You may find the left one will go away after they have done the right one

Mine hurt so badly i asked them to do both at the same time but they would not for that reason

I found it is the hedge cutters & strimmers that cause the most damage

Have you been shown any stretches by a physio before you go under the knife?

I suffered with it in both hands for about 4 years really bad after I started climbing, but put up with it as I couldn't afford the time off. I got shown a couple of stretches which helped (didn't cure it, but offered some relief) and it now doesn't cause me any problems, unless I try and write a lot (easily avoided!).

The stretch that I was shown that helped involves spreading and straightening your fingers as much as possible and then bending your wrists fully back, whilst keeping your fingers straight. Hold this for as long as your can. It can hurt, but does offer some relief (a bit **** at 3 in the morning though, but helps you get back to sleep).

BTW, they said they were reluctant to operate on both my wrists at the same time as I wouldn't be able to wipe my arse...

Had the operation last October, started work after 5 weeks but this was perhaps a little premature, probably needed another week or two. I've got most of my strength back, and I'm mighty glad I had the operation, but I still get pulsing muscle pain now and then after a harder day's work. I think it'll take a few months to clear up properly, to be honest, but it shouldn't stop you from doing most tasks.

The time when you really can't work is the worst, because you end up sitting around thinking about what you *could* be doing!

Basically, the worst part about the whole thing is the injection in the wrist (well, two of them)...there's no flesh in that area so it's all into nice and painful bits!

Also, I personally found the exercises were a waste of time and was advised by my GP to stop doing them for a few weeks, as by stretching the palm out I was continuously re-opening the scar wound slightly, which delayed the healing process.
