IMO diversification is way forward.

when i started on my own i took owt that was going, with the intension of 'cherry piking' the best work as i got established. i considered gardening work to be 'second best'

how wrong

at the end of Feb i'll be setting on my first full time gardener. if the contracts keep coming in it won't be long before theres another one.

i'll be honest, thats all thats kept me going for the past three weeks.

logs are a product we can all exploit.

chippings also are an under used resourse. i don't think it'll be long till someone comes up with a profitable use for these.

i think the future's looking good, most of us on here aren't frightened of work. there'll always be workers needed

I think the fashion competition that goes on between climbers will reach gargantuan proportions. Harnesses will be titanium re-enforced to carry the weight of the bling that must be taken up each and every tree. Chainsaw trousers will be all manner of rainbow and psychadelic patterns and will only be bought if they have been worn on a catwalk in the previous month. Saws will be faster, blades will be sharper, climbing gaffs replaced by rocket boots(in red, pink,or rainbow) and a tear will be shed by the lumberjack shirt brigade

Sadly that is like the old saying "many a true word spoken in jest" Your not far off the mark!

Though it has to be said that a lot of the gear we have these days is a vast improvement, I dont know how I managed before bull ropes pulleys and slings, and as for the portawrap, makes my world a wonderful place!

but there are way too many "posers" in this game now!

The future of arb? increasing diversity of operational sectors, and specialist niches as more research gets done and higher specs and demands are put on the high end of the business, and just doing as we always did at the lower end, doing whatever turns up whenever it turns up and depending on current work loads and capacity.
