I used a sob foot ascender (chinese ascender) as it was  cheap, meant if it didnt work no real loss. 

 

 

But it did work  really well and no need for elastic 

 

Went for a brummel splice and buried the tail to make a whoopie.

No bungee on mine just straps to my my leg works well

I use a ct one, just undone the foot loop and put a tool carry carabiner on the end to meet a boot foot loop. A bit of wet suit material glued to the back makes a huge difference to comfort.

 

I find this set up is far better as there is no elastic getting in the way all the while
