Paul to be honest i think you will be hard pushed to get a job with a smaller company in the plymouth area , and to be honest if you can get a job with a bigger company i would do it and get some decent experience under your belt , another place you could try is the citty council as they have there own tree teams

to be honest paul i would not be to haisty on getting your name around because you have worked for several companies in a shor time , i would be inclined to take my time and get the right job and then concentrate on building your skills as a climber and getting your name about for being a decant hardworking guy that climbs well as well , I personally am quite scepticle when guys come to me that have worked for ghod knows how many people in a relativley short time scale . but this is only my oppinion and hope all goes well for you

Pro Arb and Hi line are nearly always recruiting. It might not be the most glamorous work but you will get lots of it

You may well struggle to pickup freelance work at the moment. The domestic work is still pretty fickle down this way and it always slows down a bit this time of year till after spring.

Paul i have tried to help and given you names of companies and where possible the name of the person you need to speak to , take for instance silvanus - they are currently using a team that usually wors down in mid cornwall to cover the tree cutting on a wpd contract in plymouth because they are so short staffed , i am not in any way trying to put you down at all im trying to help you out !! i would not hessitate in saying what i think paul , but if you feel that im putting you down then its your problem mate i was actually trying to explain that sometimes it does not look good when you have worked for several different companies in the same area in a short space of time , yes you have done some jobbing work for companies but you started this thread talking about employment not subby work .

Paul, i wouldnt be too hasty in misinterpreting what CTS has said to you. From my point of view it is very sound advice, from a guy who is actually pretty knowledgeable and runs a very succesful company, with contracts throughout cornwall, and who has worked for alot of people. His point about handing out a CV with shed loads of short term jobs on it IS going to make readers of said CV a little wary of taking you on, as they may see it as someone who will leave/ let them down at short notice, or at worst will think something is amiss with you as a person hence the number of jobs an applicant has had. There is no fastrack way to making it in this (or probably ANY) workplace, so like the man said, get in with a company, get some years at their expense under your belt, and then maybe try going it alone again.:001_smile:

I dont know if there is anything between you an Dave Matthews, and its none of my business anyway, but i have to say that his points are valid as far as i can see on this thread.

Best of luck with the hunting mate.:001_cool:
