Optimum chain speed?

I saw this and wondered.

Is there an optimum chain speed?

When I use my 660 on the Chinese Granberg copy I'm revving far harder than the 4 stroke industrial engine in the clip.

It's just that this design is not that complicated and moderately attainable  for a DIY cheapskate

....like me.

Cheers..

I would have thought there might be a fair range. If you had a fast saw with no torque I would set it up with the rakers quite high so it would be taking fast but shallow cuts. Conversely if I had the kind of power and torque the engine in the clip probably offers  you could knock the rakers down to take a big bite. The limit would come  when you start snapping chains.

Your 660 should cut much faster than the lawn mower in the video.
It's all about a very sharp chain, correct tension and the depth gauges in accordance to the species,mc,width of cut, chain type and engine size.

If you just want to slab, stick with the chillaskan or upgrade to a panther mill.
To make dimensional timber with a chainsaw, have a look at Logosol Saw mills.

I've often thought about putting a 2 litre diesel 4 stroke on a 10' bar.
