Oak tree looks sick

We have an oak tree near houses and an 11KV H pole, is it dying?

That is dangerous and its going to take out that HV line and pole mounted substation.

You need to ring the DNO - they will organise it to be felled at no charge t yourself.  What area are you in.

You see that crack up the centre on the trunk? That's where it will go - It needs sorting out sooner rather than later believe me

Thanks Paul. It's in Snowdonia National Park, they can be awkward. I'll call SP Energy Networks now. Amey are the contractors.

Their tree officer saw it this week, said it was old, no idea what he'd been drinking... I've been watching it for 10 years now, getting worse by the day. It's on a bed of stones, like the other one that fell over a few years ago.

Its a shame Evan. Every good surveyor/consultant knows that stoney ground is the worse type of soil for tree roots. Trees on soils like this often give subtle clues regarding their stability. The trees life could have been prolonged considerably with a crown reduction. Its a valuable tree.

The forestry commission guy disagreed with me about the stones weakening the trees, he said it made them stronger...! We can't afford the upkeep of all these trees, that one was leaning over before we bought the land in 2001, it was doing that because there were 5 within 15 feet of each other competing for light and water on a large bed of rocks (prehistoric we think). The remaining trees have bulbous bottoms, what caused that?

Wouldnt consider a crown reduction then Paul?
