As said there should be a plate that screws over the tensioner. I'd fit the bat and look in under and from the front and check the cover plate is pulling in real tight.

Indeed there should.    I'll be honest and say I thought Choposaurus had removed the plate to show us the tensioner etc.  But yes if that's missing it's definitely not going to help the situation.

Sorry, the plate had been removed in order to show the tensioner behind. Im still convinced that the tension pin is actually supporting the bar, rather than the stud screws. I'll let you know how I get on tomorrow and if I come up with anything

I'd say the same as mark skyland, you’ve got different bar studs, looks like the rear one has been replaced. Are the outside diameters the same?. If not then your get leaverage on your chain tensioner

If also if your cover don’t fit because of different bar studs this will put a lot of undue pressure on your chain tensioner.

Edit: another possible cause is the rear bar stud has been put in backwards (ie the wrong end in the case ). The front has a tapering, which sits in the sprocket cover. If the rear is the wrong way it will sit higher and will not seat into the sprocket cover correctly.

take a closer pic so we can see. ?
