MS461 Brake issue

Hi

last couple of times out my 461 brake has started to feel reluctant to engage, not in the anti kickback mode but when manually engaged or disengaged, the handle seems springy but will engage/disengage the brake with what feels like a lot more than normal effort ??

Any input would be appreciated

cheers

Try cleaning out the break mechanism, its probably gunk built up in there. You'll want to youtube it, and be careful of the spring popping out, need goggles. Air compressor, dishwashing brush and break cleaner will do it. Also check the clutch is clean on the outside, there could be crud baked on there as well.

Will do ref the brake

clutch is good as that is blown out and cleaned with an air gun regularly.

Was just asking as all the other saws I have including an old and severely abused farm boss have never shown this symptom.

You tube tutorial as we speak ?

It is usually crud build up or the centre pivot on the chain brake handle end. If the clean and lube doesn't work, I did recently have a MS660 in recently where the part of the handle that pulls the knee joint upwards had cracked the bottom of the round lobe end of the handle making it impossible to pull the brake off in the normal manner.
