you would ideally need a double ascender and backing it up is a good idea if the ascenders dont come with the newer safety specs on them, bare in mind practically i only see the point backing up the side running into the alpine butterfly if u use it and if u dont have a butterfly at the top then id back both of them up. have a look at the petzl ascentree for a look at a double ascender.

hope it helps,

good luck

Ah! Are they handled ascenders and are they left and right? (one yellow and one blue) if so they can be fixed together to make a nice double, or you would just use one on a single rope but you would then need a croll and maybe a pantin for the full srt set up.

Doubling up the two ascenders you have would be the best option IMO.

Handles together. It actually works really well. Handles aposed just wont work with these type of ascenders. (I'm assuming NZ paul means left and right handled ones)

Your second hand just goes on the rope below the ascenders, which is mostly how I use double handles ascenders anyway, especially if in contact with trunck and/branches on the way up. Double handles are ok for straight ascents in mid air.

Put them back to back and fix together using zip ties. Or, for a more permanent solution trim the inner part of the rubber handle away from each ascender (get an adult to help you with a stanley knife!) and then tape the two together with insulting tape.

I would recomend buying double handled ascenders over this option, but if you have two ascenders not being used much then this is a good method.
