Felling axe

When my Hultafors axe arrived I cut myself on it as I took the leather scabbard off. You hear people use the term "razor sharp" but I had never had an axe that was as sharp as a razor before.

After using the axe for a while and cutting a few trees down, messing about sharpening things and general buggering about the axe was still just as sharp. I had never had an axe like that before either.

Had axes all my life ( I am 54) and never had one even close to the Hultafors.

What weight do you need?  I use a selection for my hedging and I won't use any that aren't capable of shaving your face.

For a weighty one Elwell can be very good but are variable in their ability to take an edge.  Gilpin, Whitehouse, Brades etc are all good.

A very good lighter axe are the Ochsenkopf range.
